We have discovered that original
image data will disappear on PCs running Windows Vista (the new OS
from Microsoft), if TIFF (RAW) images are rotated or edited using
the Windows Explorer or Windows Photo Gallery. And this phenomenon
occurs only for images shot using the EOS-1D/EOS-1Ds digital SLR cameras.
The lost image data cannot be recovered. |
| |
| Solution |
| |
| Hence, to rotate or edit properties* of TIFF images
shot with the EOS-1D/EOS-1Ds, Canon recommends to use the Canon ZoomBrowser
EX image browsing/editing software instead of the Windows Explorer or
Windows Photo Gallery. |

| *Examples of properties that can be edited are
Title, Subject, Rating, Tags and Comments |
| |
| Microsoft has a programme to fix this problem. You
can download this software from Microsoft's Website. |
| |
|
| |
| (Caution: After installing this software, if you
display TIFF (RAW) image previews in Windows Photo Gallery, the message
"Photo Gallery can’t open this picture or video. The file
appears to be damaged or corrupted." will appear. Please ignore
this message.) |
| |
| Notes: |
| |
| * |
It is necessary to download a Windows
Vista™-compatible version of ZoomBrowser EX to run ZoomBrowser
EX on Windows Vista™-based PCs. |
| * |
Even after downloading a Windows Vista™–compatible
version of ZoomBrowser EX, please do not use Windows Explorer
or Windows Photo Gallery to rotate TIFF images or to edit the
properties of TIFF images shot with affected cameras. |
